Project management of a Warehouse Management System implementation

Project Background

The client is a prominent high street and retail park retailer.
LCP had been engaged with this client for many years working in all areas of supply chain improvement. Part of the many projects within the overall improvement programme was to introduce a new Warehouse Management System (WMS) into their main distribution centre. This was to interface with a new business enterprise system also under development.

Approach

LCP Consulting were initially engaged in advising the client on how to put together a requirements specification for inclusion in an invitation to tender document. LCP generated the process for creating this comprehensive document mainly comprising a series of workshops and lead these sessions.

The outcome of the workshops was edited into the current system. This was combined with the requirements of the new system which included interfaces with a proposed new materials handling system and new work processes in a number of areas.

Recommendations were then made on how to put together an invitation to tender document and which vendors to issue this to.
LCP contributed to the compilation of this document.

The client then undertook their own evaluation and selection of
WMS provider and engaged LCP Consulting to project manage the implementation.

The team comprised the clients own operational and systems staff and consultants from the
WMS provider.

Project management procedures were put in place to define and execute the project.
Brainstorming sessions were held to resolve technical problems.

Test procedures were developed and test scripts written. User tests successfully completed and phased go live planned.
